"On Keeping a Twitter [Account]"

If you don't read thought catalogue, you probably should. Reading is good for you and no-  reading blog excerpts or online marketing banners and advertisements doesn't count. If you tweet or have a working understanding of what Twitter is, read this.
For many writers, using the website is about narcissism, but it can also be about participating in a daily creative exercise. Composing something interesting and/or funny in 140 characters or less is often more difficult than we’d like to admit and it forces you to cut the fat and focus on sentence structure and necessary language. It’s also a fascinating way to see what the public responds to and what they ultimately reject. You might wonder why your tweet about cheese got 60 retweets while your really funny observation about post-modernism received two. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to any of it. Trying to parse what resonates and what doesn’t is usually a frustrating crapshoot, but at least it forces you to stay on your toes.

On Keeping A Twitter

NAILS.

I love this look even thought it has the possibility of looking like garbage if you pick the wrong colours.

When you sport painted nails almost every single day, it's nice to mix it up.

DAY DREAM.

I day dream of simplicity like this.

Dog vs. Cat

Today I embody the crazy cat lady... cat cartoon and now photos of my cat.  Someone send help.

My sister took this sequence {for lack of a better word} over Christmas.  This was taken a few days after Oscar met our new puppy, Riley... Oscar was not exactly a fan. He has sense dropped his drama queen ways and these two are now best buds.

Aww.

Oscar not being a fan.

Riley persist for friendship.
Oscar isn't having it.
Ohh...

No.
Oscar has won for now.

CAT

I have a cat that lives with my parents and our two dogs, he totally thinks like this.

MUSIC OF THE MINUTE.

This has been keeping me company lately {and by this I mean sense yesterday}... this version has a long intro.

Jay Electronica feat. Tone Treasure - Jazzmataz by Maino Gates

JAKE DAVIS: MOTION MAN.

Today, video is king when it comes to online content. Be that because the technology required is becoming more readily accessible, the public is becoming too lazy to consume anything longer then 140 characters or simply because the amount of video out there means that there is something for everyone... it's what has happened.

It goes without saying that some industries have seen more success with video than others, yet what I find interesting is the way in which they are using it. The how out weighs the why for me. The snowboard industry (ok... and ski) have been using this means of indirect advertising and self promotion for years- I like how fashion is now eating it up.

All of this rambling to say that this is a great little documentary on Jake Davis. This guy is talented, this video is well put together and I find the whole thing interesting.

If you have five-and-a-half minutes give this a gander.
Thank you to Craig for sending it my way.

THIS ISN'T COOL.

"Feels Like: -", what does that even mean?

It either means one of two things.
1. It does indeed feel as though it's -29 outside; or
2. It actually feels even colder outside but they are afraid to tell us as people have things like work and school to attend today.

"Reddit has the cutest dogs ever" - @mattDavidson

There really is no wonder as to why I want a puppy so badly.
Despite the fact that I grew up with a house full of dogs- I have to endure this day in, day out.

This is all for now...

"Some day I can whistle"

I have honestly watched the original video of these two more then four times... which is a lot for me and a youTube video. My sister just sent me this of the same two performing Home live on the Ellen D. show, it's so cute I feel slightly nauseous.

EVERYTHING I LIKE IS...

This has been around and done better, but the message remains the same.

Gold Arm Accessory

Pardon  my french as I am not sure what to say about this other then MK can suck it.  Though I did originally love and adore the huge gold watches I am sick of seeing them on every Artizian girl I pass on the street... {in her long black fur lined hood, salty Uggs and Starbucks latte}.

My heart goes out to those who've had them sense the get go, they are nice pieces and I mean nothing negative by this other then originality seems to be non existent around here. That being said, here I am blogging yet another gold watch. All I can say is that I am stoked it's Nixon and available for $100 online.

GIRLS.

I can't be too certain but based on these photos that I have accumulated, I would say I am looking forward to the summer, wearing cut-offs... and that I have a thing for long hair.

Shocking, eh?

Good god I want my leopard print scarf back, damn you hippie cafe.

In other news, I can't get enough of the colour grey.

money | happiness.

This industry makes me laugh or at the very least shake my head.
{Though much this is applicable to the majority of your life.}

EMMA STONE

One of the only people that really seemed worth {positively} talking about {dress wise} from whatever award show happened a few days ago, Emma Stone.

Can't go wrong with a simple clean bun and a CK dress, sometimes less really is more.

[ed. note: As Georgia pointed out, she is kinda orange]

FORTS.

I am posting this as I pack up my things to go home and spend the rest of my day creating this. This is amazing. I feel as though Geoff's fort training in my youth is now all making sense.

In all seriousness though, how fantastic is this?

SWAGGER.

Something had got to be said for well dressed rug-rats, like food, everything is cuter and thus more interesting when it is in mini format. This kid has more style than most of my friends... not to mention I'd like to have a pair of those boots.

This is Gwen Stenfani's son so there is really no question as to why he looks as he does, what a cutie.

Sunday, January 16

I do want to go there.

 These are ridiculous, I want.

Snowy Saturday

Usually I hate photos that are out of focus, this one of Rachel's is a rare exception.

After spending the majority of the day tinkering around with some work I met up with the girls for some caffeine, colourful nails, thrifting, and snow trekking around Westboro (I am still learning the different areas of Ottawa). It was a beautiful snowy evening and I am glad I was out appreciating it- I ended up showing even more appreciation for it later that night at Craig's house.  The game was watched, delicious steak was consumed and a snowy hot tub session was completed whilst observing Torstein Horgmo, Kazu Kokubo and the Helgason brothers show off their abilities.

I love unexpectedly fun days.

Playing in the snow

Kind of wishing I could go home to play with these two.
Puppies + snow, what more could you ask for on a Saturday morning?

sent from my mom iPhone, my dad's giving away some sort of business advice in the background apparently.

Jerry's Girls

I don't think these are actually his girls, but it was the first thing to come to mind.

Thursday, January 13

you oughta know... eugh.

I feel as though this could be one of those songs I over play really quickly. I gotta stop doing that.

The end is already annoying me though, oh well. Voila.

I REQUIRE

This is perfect and by perfect I mean badass... well at least in the way that something that isn't black leather, studded, or grungy can be badass. I am thinking that @rachel_lemkow might like this too.

you can get this here.

THREE WORDS

How would you describe your friend, a foe, an acquaintance, or a coworker in three words?

Now would you want to know what three words those people would use to describe you? I'm not entirely sure that I would want to, but hey, there's a website for it. It's functionality is simple, it's purpose is vague at best. This seems to be a means enjoying the warmth of the big cozy blanket of anonymity that is the web.

This is weird, but here it is http://threewords.me/mal_jones.

iPad Magazines: SELF SERVICE.

Alright so I don't own an iPad nor do I see myself acquiring one in the immediate future... but that is not to say that I don't think they're pretty fun. Fun? Yea fun. I am not sure how I would incorporate one into my day-to-day life (not that I need another means of being connected to anything), but I certainly enjoyed test driving one over the weekend a few months back.

One of my favourite things about the iPad is the way in which magazines are clinging to the platform. There are some pretty cool things out there... this one is the free app from Self Service

The ads move and are somewhat interactive, they at least caught my attention enough for me to watch this... twice. Oh, hello end of work day.

JALOUSE: ERIN.

Twenty years from now:

This is a tad overkill in terms of it's cheese factor but when it comes down to it, it is the thought that counts... right?

Wish I was home this weekend to play in the snow with them.
